According to documents compiled by expert Georgina Letourmy-Bordier, this spinning wheel was invented by M. C. Duverger for the Duvelleroy company, “to replace the spinning wheel.”
It was featured in the catalog of the 5th exhibition of products by members of the Academy and Industry, held at the Orangerie des Tuileries in 1841. It appears under reference number 175 for Duvelleroy, a patented manufacturer of spinning wheels and fans, located at 9 Boulevard Bonne Nouvelle in Paris. Several pages explain its origin, operation, and advantages, accompanied by a drawing.
The Duvelleroy spinning machine also appears in the catalog of the 6th exhibition the following year.
As well as at the Public Exhibition of French Industrial Products in 1844. Advertisements also promoted it until 1844. For example, the last photo, taken from Le Tam-Tam, Le Journal de Paris No. 31, July 30, 1843.
