This could be a reference to the great cholera epidemic that ravaged France in 1865. Empress Eugénie showed her support by visiting various hospitals and charitable institutions. Notably in Paris at the Beaujon Hospital in December 1865, then at the Hôtel-Dieu in Amiens, a city severely affected, on July 4, 1866. These gestures of solidarity and generosity left a lasting impression and were widely commemorated.
