Painted and varnished snuffbox, the lid decorated with a miniature under glass painted in relief (wax?) of an aerostat in the sky.
Tortoiseshell interior with pompom or gilded brass ring.
Good condition (small damage to the tortoiseshell inside the lid).

This may be a representation of the aerostatic machine project presented to the Académie des Sciences by Jean-Baptiste Meusnier de La Place in 1784.
