Wooden brisé fan painted with flowers (pansies, wild roses and cyclamens as symbols of love and affection) and portraits of the Royal Family of Hanover on one side and on the other featuring a photograph of Marienburg Castle in Germany.
Signed and dated F. Theyer in Wien, referring to the painter Franz Theyer, known for his portraits of the aristocracy.

Depicted are : at the top in profile and on a smaller scale, the late King George V, the last King of Hanover (1819–1878); in the centre, his wife Princess Marie of Saxe-Altenburg (1818–1907) and on either side two of their children : Marie of Hanover (1849–1904) and Ernest Augustus (1845–1923). The portrait of Frederika (1848–1926), the couple’s eldest daughter, is missing.
According to the expert Georgina Letourmy-Bordier, her absence suggests that this fan may have belonged to her.
Marienburg Castle, built between 1857 and 1867, was a gift from King George V to his wife serving as a summer residence and a royal hunting lodge.
