On May 18, 1896, the French Embassy organized a dinner to celebrate the coronation of the new Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II. We can assume that the female guests may have received this type of fan as a gift.
A Kees fan in the same style, but cabriolet, from the collection of Princess Youssoupoff (1861-1939) is featured in Hand fans in Russia, 18th to early 20th century. In the State Hermitage Museum collection by Yulia Plotnikova. Moscow 2019. p. 383
