The French painter Henri Jourdain exhibited at the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon des Artistes Français. He illustrated several famous works, including Flaubert's Madame Bovary, Chateaubriand's Monsieur des Lourdines and Daudet's Les lettres de mon moulin.
In 1889, he married Juliette Poterlet. She was one of the daughters of ornamental painter Victor Poterlet, and a painter herself, notably of fans and fixed fans. Henri Jourdain may well have been inspired by his wife to create fan leaves.
Some thirty fan leaves signed Juliette Poterlet or Juliette Jourdain are known, some of which are held by the Forney library (https://bibliotheques-specialisees.paris.fr/ark:/73873/pf0001839010 ).
