An advertisement featuring Liberty & Co fans, “Creators of artistic objects, 3 boulevard des Capucines, Paris (et Londres),” appears in the Maciet albums at the Bibliothèque des Arts Décoratifs and dates this fan to 1909.
Liberty & Co is a London fabric store created by Arthur Lasenby Liberty on Regent Street in 1875-76, initially importing items from the British Empire (carpets, cotton fabrics, brocades and silks from the Middle East and India, Japanese wallpaper, lacquerware, cashmere shawls, etc.). The store quickly made a name for itself internationally by offering a range of products (particularly linen and cotton fabrics) with patterns inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement and accessible to all budgets.
A Paris branch was opened in 1889-90.
