Wooden fan, the paper leaf painted after two illustrations by French painter Gustave Doré in 1863 from Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's novel El ingenioso hidalgo don Quixote de la Mancha (written in 1605 and 1615): Don Quixote on his horse Rocinante, battling windmills he thinks are giants (part one, chapter VIII). On the reverse, Sancho Panza weeps for Rucio, his sick donkey.

Printed border signed Bach Madrid, spanish fan maker.
Signed on reverse, illegible.

Good overall condition (one guard damaged with a glued fold).
