Fan with skin leaf painted depicting a highly suggestive version of the embarkation to Cythera: a gallant leads his future wife to a boat that putti are busy building, with the blessing of Hera, the goddess who protects marriages. The destination is the island of carnal pleasures, Cythera, whose waves are reputed to have witnessed the birth of the goddess of love, Aphrodite.
On the reverse, two putti embrace sensually, before an altar where ardent hearts are being consumed.
