Black resille leaf and silk application richly embroidered with golden sequins.
The central cartel is painted and is based on an 1801 work by Pierre-Paul Prud'hon: "The Triumph of Bonaparte" which celebrates the French victories of Marengo over Austria and the signing of the Treaty of Lunéville in 1801. Napoleon, as the first Consul of the Republic, is in a chariot driven by Victory and accompanied by Peace. Three Muses of the Arts precede the chariot as well as cherubs proudly brandishing the laurels of Victory and Peace, while two other Muses follow behind.
Sticks and guards are horn, pierced and inlaid with golden sequins.
