Mother-of-pearl fan with carved and  pierced sticks and guards and backed with gold foil.

The double leaf is printed with a chromolithography and painted on both sides with an antique scene of Hippocrate refusing the gifts of the persian king Artaxercès.

Length : 39 cm

Good condition (a guard and two sticks restored)

This fan reproduced the painting of a great french painter Anne-Louis Girodet (1767-1824) : Hippocrate refusant les présents d'Artaxercès, painted in 1792 for the doctor Trioson. You can see this painting in the Medecine Museum, Paris (France).
